bidness trip - cheesesteak

So I'm chowing down a $13 Turkey Panini Melt here at the Boston Hilton while writing this entry up on my $10 per day access. Oh man, can you feel the power? Everything is on the company! Talk about being spoiled.

We did have a brutal road trip on the way here but we also rewarded ourselves halfway through. We purposely went out of our way to Philly to have lunch at cheesesteak meca Pat's. This place is not what you call a "typical" restaurant. It's just a run down joint that you order through a glass window ala Brewsters. You then munch down the 9" cheesesteak on a picnic table outside. So what's on a real philly cheesesteak? Steak, onions, and Whiz as in Cheese Whiz. That's it. No lettuce, no mayo, no nothing, no nada. Even with just those ingredients, the damn thing was del-f'n-icious. There's nothing quite like it.

...except... Ginos! Which is just right across the street, literaly. I was asking my coworker which place was better since he lived in Philly before. He couldn't tell me so he offered a solution. A second round of cheesesteaks, this time at Ginos. We're talking about 2 - 9 inchers for lunch here people! Ridiculous but we had to, or I had to.

The place is exactly like Pat's but more colorful or mainstream. You have your colorful mainstream joint in Ginos, then you have the run down local joint. I personally enjoyed Pat's better. Not that Gino's was horrible, I thought Pat's had more flavor. Mmmm... good. I just wish I had my camera with me because it's so far the highlight of the trip. I highly recommend Pat's or both if you can afford the heart attack.

That's all for now. 3 more days to go.

full time g33k

Yay... I finally moved, yay! They finally moved my Compliance responsibilities to another company thus freeing me from the balls and chain of drugtests and MVRs. I am now a Help Desk / Tech Analyst. It's pretty much desktop support. I was suppose to start Monday but for some reason I couldn't break away from the chain.

I started Wednesday with just some busy work like inventory. Today was more fun with fixing this and that, a bunch of installs here and there. I just can't get how people are with kick ass equipment. I had to clean some Dr's laptop filled with ___ware and viruses. The widescreen laptop was powered by Intel Core Duo, 2 gigs of ram, 100gb HD, dvd burner, etc. Power going to waste, how sad.

I'm a lot happier with my new found geek profession. I don't mind staying after hours as much and I don't find myself falling into that sleepy trance after lunch. Not yet anyways.

I got the car, I got the job, now all I need is the girl and I'll be all set. Oh wait... I want a bike too. A forced induction setup for the tC would be nice... of course a house... a real popcorn machine... oh, how can I forget a plasma display... :)

Movin' on up... (cont.)

Yea so I mentioned on my last entry that there's a chance I might be moving to another department like oh, lets say IT. Well I have good news and bad news thanks to some work friends in high places who spilled the beans. The bad news is me geeking out at work is not going to happen, at least for now. My work friend happened to show me a yet to be published company newsletter that will officially make me the Compliance Team Lead. Yay!. Sorry for not hearing the drum roll and the big shabang but I would rather be hanging out with the company geeks.

Did you ever get a promotion where the position wasn't even offered to you. Like, hey, you know more about what we do so you're going to be this. Umm... thanks?

I have to admit though that I am excited about the position. It is a leadership role which should look good on the resume. Then again it is more responsibilities and I'd have to take some bullets for the rest of the team. You know what? All i have to say is BRING IT! and show me the cash flow.

Right now I'm feeling kind of like a Ralph Wiggum moment; Ralph standing next to a mailbox playing with the flag marker thingy that tells the mailman if you have some outgiong mail. Ralph brings up the marker.... HAHAHAHA .. he pulls it down... awww! .... brings it back up.... HAHAHA ... back down.... awww....
.. you get my point, I hope.

Movin' on up...

... maybe

About a month ago I was offered an after hours job that will pay me by the week. Sounds kinky huh? There is a geek factor involved as they are going to give me a Treo or some other smartphone. A definite plus for me. The negative is I would have to work after hours, meaning I'd have to cover 8pm to the next morning with a possibily I could get phone calls at 2am and on for 7 days straight. Alternating weeks with some other people. But hey, it's enough to pay for a car Scion TC, so sign me up! I'll find out more soon.

There's also a chance that I could be moving to a new department, somewhere that I would really love to be. But I haven't heard anything official about, just rumors. Stay tuned.
